Random Acts proudly implements the Chicago Theatre Standards as outlined by #NotInOurHouse.
Random Acts launched in 2015 focused on diverse and unpredictable genres of theatre, often presenting immersive productions in offbeat spaces. The company's first breakout hit was Ladies Night of the Living Dead at the Chicago Fringe Festival, which transferred to The Pendulum Space for an extended run in Fall 2015. This was followed in Spring 2016 by the experimental Unbound, which saw audiences choosing their paths throughout (and outside of) a converted storefront in Lincoln Square.
In 2017, Strangest Things! The Musical extended twice, closing after 50 performances at the Greenhouse Theatre Center, dozens of acclaimed reviews, and a featured performance on WGN. In 2018, the company launched #SafeSpace, a pop-up variety series that raised funds for various organizations that continued until April 2020. Later that year, RA presented the 20th Anniversary Reading of The Laramie Project in association with About Face Theatre, directed by Jason Gerace. 2019 saw the immersive productions of columbinus and Scary Stories: Are You Afraid?.
In 2020, the company presented the virtual Random Acts of Theatre Festival in April, followed by the streaming productions Scary Stories: Dark Web and The Diplomats. The Random Acts of Horror Festival in October 2020 reached over 20,000 screens and featured a cameo from horror legend Tony Todd.
2021 began with a series of Ben F. Locke's work, followed by the launch of ongoing comedy series Channel 13, now in its second season. The Last Podcast premiered in September, followed by Scary Stories Around the Fire, an ongoing audio horror anthology.
In 2022, Channel 13 expands to the radio with our new series MPR Radio. We also launched the @random audio feed, featuring interviews, bonus content, and favorite clips from years past.
